Build Product and a Growth Team
Bobby Prabowo is our Engineering Manager. He was awarded Quipper Champion 2020. We’ve done an interview with him so we can get to know his feelings, thoughts, and important lessons during his journey here in Quipper.
Maintain Company Culture and Grow the Team
As an Engineering Manager for the Learn Android application, I managed the team so we can deliver the Learn Android app to the user, but also since the software is built by the team, not by a person, so my extra responsibilities are about maintaining the balance between the company growth and my team growth. It starts by focusing on their greatest potential through their soft skill and hard skill in order to deliver the best product for the user.
It’s an honor to receive Quipper Champion 2020. Well actually I am not really expecting any recognition and pretty clueless about the title, pardon me for that. But this award shows that the app that the team delivered is being recognized and it motivates me to keep on improving more since I realized that our team still needs to learn a lot in order to deliver the best product for our use, there is still so much homework for the team that we need to do.
Work in a Dynamic Environment Promotes My Professional Development
I think I have learned a lot about human interaction since I joined the company. Quipper is pretty unique since we are a multinational company, the team itself has developers from the Philippines and Indonesia, and the product itself has its unique feature and way of selling based on the country, so it was pretty challenging to meet and adjust to the expectation.
At Quipper, I am grateful that I have been given an opportunity to lead a team, building the team culture based on my past experience and the team dynamics, and learn a lot about team management, and do a full rebuild from the old app and we can meet almost all expectations from the stakeholders.
I Used to Have This Dream (Of Being a Pilot)
Actually, to be an Engineering Manager is something that I never imagined. It is not aligned with any of my dreams, since I wanted to be an airplane pilot but unfortunately I have a height phobia LOL.
But if I am asked about any wisdom word, I will quote from Kahlil Gibran “Work is Love Made Visible”. So keep the focus on the things that you build to help others and let the product speak about your work.
