Andreas Gilbert Setiawan, or Andre, is one of our interns currently involved as School Relations for Quipper Campus. He is 21 years old and an active student majoring in entrepreneurship and business management or commonly called Creativepreneurship.

Andre is currently working remotely from Bandung, West Java. As a multinational company, he reassures that by took an internship at Quipper will help develop his English skills and he feels challenged to be able to work in a fast-paced environment. For him, Quipper is also an interesting company as it is one of the pioneers in the EdTech industry in Indonesia.

He shares with us his memory of his first day as an intern, what he had learned and improved during his internship, and many more.

On my first day of internship

“I still remember the first day of my internship. At that time I had mixed feelings, there were feelings of enthusiasm, fear, and joy because this was my first internship experience”.

Andre believes that the position offered to him is an opportunity to gain a lot of new knowledge. He adds, “I feel happy because I can have the opportunity to have experience in a reputable multinational company in Indonesia”.

“There are two other Quipperiors in my team. They were very nice and friendly, comfortable to talk to and joke with. I still remember they were willing to explain patiently and happily to me for something I didn’t understand because I still had a lot to learn,” he says. The overall first impression of Andre’s first day was quite surprising because he was greeted well by all staff from all divisions and that they were very friendly. “They would scold me when I hesitated to ask, so since then I never hesitated to ask anything, it made me feel very welcome in a division,” he convinces.

Challenging but fruitful

After doing an internship for few months, Andre is confident that at the moment he is able to come up with many new strategies for his division and able to guide others. But this was a result of his turning point as he faced changes and shifts in School Relations team.

“There is a moment when I have to take over my leader’s tasks. It forced me to learn many new things, how to collaborate with schools, what to prepare, to coordinate with any division, to be able to solve problems independently, and so on. But as time went on, I understood how valuable all these learnings were”.

He was satisfied with his job since then and unlock new achievements. “I was able to achieve several targets to hold several webinars and hits the target audiences, succeeded in meeting the demands of several major schools in Jakarta, and able to carry out retention program activities for counselors teachers”.

More importantly, he was satisfied because he was able to bring Quipper Campus broader awareness, audiences, and he can provide benefits to those teams aligned with him.

Positive work culture

Andre thinks that Quipper’s culture is able to encourage every employee to continue to grow and give their best. He points out, “Quipper really supports their employees to continue to grow and learn something new. It also encourages me to have a growth mindset, we share knowledge and learn from each other”.

He learns and absorbs a lot of good things from his surrounding. “My leader and manager always provide a solution for every problem that is present in my division, through a way of thinking that is beyond my thinking. It really inspired me to have that mindset. Through them, I have come to understand the process or flow of a job deeper, my knowledge of this division has broadened, and now I can be independent in solving problems that occur,” he says.

Things that I learn and improve

Andre stated that there are many things he learned during the internship program, one of which is that his communication skills have improved. He tells us, “I understand how to do persuasive communication when doing retention programs so that teachers are willing to collaborate with us again. I also learned a lot about how to handle a large online webinar event from upstream to downstream, what things need to be prepared in detail. I have also come to understand where achievement and good relationships with co-workers must go hand in hand”.

A song that describes my internship day in Quipper

It is called ‘Pesawat Kertas 365 Hari’, a song by a female idol group JKT 48. “This song describes Quipper who can bring me up closer to my career goals in the future. The working environment in Quipper made me understand that working is not about competing who is the best, but what knowledge and lessons have been learned,” he confesses.
