When Work Doesn’t Feel Like Work
“Being a graphic designer is really enjoyable for me, sometimes it doesn’t feel like work at all.” — Irene Suhendro, our Graphic Designer told us in an interview.
How do you describe yourself to others?
I’m an INFJ according to some personality tests. I am a person who is actually easy to approach, even though it might not look like it. I’m wearing my earphones 90% of the time when I’m working because I need to listen to music to stay happy and focused to be able to create good design. But please don’t hesitate if you want to talk to me, I’m always open for discussion and I’d be happy to hear your constructive feedback.
What is a Normal Day for You?
I have been working as a graphic designer at Quipper for 2 years. I’m responsible for QuipperVideo visual design. I mostly work with the marketing team for Quipper’s landing pages, promotions, and campaigns. I’m also responsible for QuipperVideo social media images. I create 2–3 images per day on a daily basis.
How did you start as a graphic designer? And why did you choose a graphic designer as your career?
Since I was a kid, I used to spend my whole time in art activities like drawing, painting, designing something, and I think I finally found my passion and talents in the arts.
My first project was when I was in high school. My friends often asked me to choose the themes for their birthday parties and then I designed the invitations and decorations. Sometimes, I also sketched and designed their birthday gowns. At that time I realized, when people see and like my designs, I feel really happy and fulfilled. Also, it’s a wonderful feeling to be able to interpret someone’s vision into a visual representation. Since then, I know my passion has always been art and design.
We believe you have a memorable time during working in Quipper, please tell us!
When I was on the committee for the Quipper Kick-Off Meeting in 2017. It was a wonderful experience because it was my first time at Quipper which requires me to work collaboratively with other people from various divisions, in a very limited time. But thank God the event was successful. It definitely was not easy but I felt so much fun.
Could you please tell us about the important things that you have discovered for 2 years …
I’m experiencing a super positive atmosphere here because there are so many Quipperior who have good ownership.
I always thought that I’m doing a good job for what I’ve done at my previous company. But since I jumped into Quipper and became part of it, my life suddenly changed. I felt my “ownerships” level has increased since I moved here and it really helped me in supporting my career at Quipper.
Tell us what you love the most about your job!
Being a designer is really enjoyable for me. Because I can work based on my passion, especially when drawing illustration, which I like the most, sometimes it doesn’t feel like work at all :’)
I also like that there are various types of design fields I can work on, like illustrations, photography, animation.
What is your biggest challenge as a Graphic Designer, and how do you manage it?
Design is always evolving, technology is always growing, it creates an ongoing demand for creativity. I always try to keep updated and learn new things every day, from anyone and anything, so I can contribute to society through the design that relates and solves problems.
