If you’re a functioning mother, you will undoubtedly have had people make a few suppositions about you. Not all that much, essentially. Our human cerebrums simply pursue faster routes, dependent on our encounters and what little information we may have. We’re wired that way. What’s more, our predispositions come through.

However, a lot of information can make us mindful of these inclinations, so we can begin to address them. With an end goal to expose a couple of the confusions and generalizations that encompass working mothers, here is the story of our Quipper’s amazing women.

Let’s Get to Know Them Better!

During this pandemic, Nila Ratnasari and Kania Perwitasari just had their brand new chapters as a mother. First, we have Nila as a Senior Accounting Officer. She is responsible for making financial reports, creating finance and accounting policies to enhance compliance if needed, and so on.

On the other side, we have Kania as our Content Production Head. She is in charge of handling some projects. Her notable works comprise Quipper Video After School and Animation Video projects. She’s also involved in the Public Relations Team, increasing brand awareness with several Brand Ambassadors and Key Opinion Leader (KOL).

Balancing Heart and Mind

“I struggled, honestly. At first, I encountered some challenges, such as managing the schedules between babysitting and work. Also, the housework along with my emotions after giving birth”, said Nila. She assumed that getting used to being a mother was such a roller coaster ride. She tried to deal with mixed emotions while regaining her focus at work.

Indeed, juggling the role of a mother and work is not easy. She needed to change her baby’s diapers regularly, give breastfeeding, and ensure that the tasks were completed on time. Engaging her team in a fun conversation is Nila’s another stress reliever to maintain an excellent physical and mental state.

Nila was not the only one working hard to do everything well, but Kania also did the same. She was excited to have such a long paid holiday (maternity leave) and yet it turned out otherwise. To fulfill her longing, she checked up on her Slack account frequently.

“When the time comes for me to return, the first week feels like I just joined the company and needed to do the onboarding meeting again. So excited!”, said Kania during the interview. She emphasized that her responsibilities as a team leader, however, helped her balance her life. Besides ensuring that the production runs smoothly, she often commutes to the studio to socialize with others.

Supportive Environment Keeps Me Sane

Kania pointed out that Quipper has a supportive environment for working mothers. Not only did her teammates help her finish the tasks, but her manager also checked up on her well-being. “My manager has always been very supportive of my new role as a mother. We have a weekly catch-up meeting. During the meeting, we discuss the work and how things are going in my motherhood life. It’s a warm and casual conversation, which means a lot to me”.

At the moment, Nila receives the same energy as Kania. Her coworkers are so understanding, knowing that it must be challenging to become a working mother. Other than that, she feels so grateful for having a good team leader. She stated, “My manager is always there to keep me and my team motivated. Not only does she create a warm ambiance within the team, but she also enables me to develop myself by solving problems”.

Rediscovering Myself after Motherhood

“Being a working mother does not make you less nor put your children in the least priority. I can love my child and my job at the same time. It may not be easy, but I always give my best effort to get all the tasks done”, said Nila. She added, her new role changed her mind of things that might seem impossible. On the contrary, it is highly possible to do many things at the same time.

Kania also revealed that becoming a mother helped unlock her potential. The role taught her to push herself beyond limits and rediscover a sense of self to things she never expected to be capable of. “The energy level is different; the spirit is different; the self-management is different; the emotion management is also different. And from this experience, I learned that a woman, specifically a working mother, is special because they can adapt; they will and always have positive energy and spirit on anything they do”, she said.

To sum up the interview, Nila and Kania delivered a meaningful message to all of the working mothers out there:

“Becoming a working mother does not decrease your self-worth even though you have a lot of things to do. Your child will still love you no matter what. Surely, they miss you, but they admire you. You are amazing because you can face those challenges. You can manage your schedule between work, babysitting, housework, and your “me time” to keep sane.

Also, the decision is on us. Take it, embrace all the good and bad days, stay positive, and be happy. We are doing great, always!”.
